I was born in southern part of
Turkiye in a city called
Mersin,
located by the
Mediterranean sea. I am one of the
two sons of Dr. Mehmet Necati Kiralp, an internal diseases specialist,
and Iclal Kiralp, an elementary school teacher. I have one
brother, who is an orthodontist.
I completed my secondary
education in Mersin at
Tarsus
American College, and for my post-secondary education, I
studied Industrial Engineering at the
Industrial Engineering Department
of Dalhousie University,
located in
Halifax, NS, Canada.
As of May 2005, I
successfully completed my four years in engineering and
obtained my Bachelor of Engineering degree in Industrial
Engineering with a year of co-op experience. During my
undergraduate studies, I
co-received the 2005 Association
of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia (APENS) award for
best senior year design project.
In December 2007, I have
completed my Master of Applied Science degree in the same department,
where I focused on operations research,
supply chain management, Lean manufacturing, distribution
management, and statistical quality control. During my
graduate studies, I have received a NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research
Council of Canada) research grant, a faculty of graduate studies
scholarship, and
a Bruce and Dorothy Rosetti scholarship. Towards the end of my degree, I have also had the
opportunity to present my thesis at an international
conference, Intelligent
Manufacturing Systems 2007, held in Alicante, Spain.
In September 2010, I had the chance to publish a journal article
that focused on
optimization of supply chain networks with Dr. Uday
Venkatadri of Dalhousie University. This article can
be found in the Production Planning & Control journal.
As of January 2012, I am
a full-time member (P.Eng.) at both APENS in Nova Scotia and
APEGA in Alberta.
